A very small gallery yet much on display. The owner, Christopher Mouncey is a landscape watercolour painter and many of his works are of the Lakeland fells. He captures the romantic atmosphere and adds a little 'artistic licence' too!
On display were pieces by both Margaret and Eddie Curtis
as well as that of local artist local to the area, Julia Roxburgh.
Her love of colour and texture began to be a key feature in her pots and remains so to this day. She loves theatre and circus and this inspires and informs her work. She developed the use of crowns as lids and tops in 1998 and this feature has become a recognisable trademark of her work, as is the use of lashings of gold!
I quite like these pieces yet I'm not sure I would buy one. They are very busy and they would get lost in the clutter of my home! However, I like the vibrancy, colour and fun of Roxburgh's work. They remind me of the sort of crockery I might have bought when setting up home in the 80's!
